You may be wondering, What do you mean pleasure can’t bring me happiness – aren’t they basically the same thing?
Not exactly.
Happiness is a long-term mental state of serenity, well-being and contentment.
Conversely, pleasure is short-term, sensual gratification.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying pleasure. The problem is when think that pleasure is happiness.
Pleasure is fleeting, easy to come by, and derived from external sources. Happiness is cultivated, long-lasting, and derived from inside yourself.
As I’m sure you’ve noticed, we as a society are experiencing a growing void, a gap in the connection we have with ourselves and the universe – a lack of spiritual connection.
And, in an attempt of bridge that gap, and fill that longing, we’ve resorted to buying stuff and things. Filling our lives with temporary pleasure instead of long-term happiness.
You may be thinking, that’s all good and well, but how do I make the shift from putting a Band-Aid on this boo-boo with temporary pleasure and instead seeking out the things that fulfill me and cultivate genuine happiness?
Well, I’m glad you asked!
The answer: Meditation.
It’s actually been proven that meditation can help connect the left and right hemispheres of the brain, lowering stress as well as improving brain function and problem-solving abilities.
I love these benefits but my favorite way to see meditation is as a form of communion.
It’s how I commune with my highest, most divine self, and in turn, how my highest self communes with the universe.
We’re all made up of the same things, atoms, and energy.
Heck, everything in the universe is a combination of atoms and energy.
And, energies have frequencies.
So when you spend time meditating or communing, with the universe, great spirit, divine being, god, source, or whatever you want to call it, you’re building a deeper sense of connection, not only with yourself but with the energy all around you.
Only when we connect with our highest, most authentic selves can we truly understand the meaning of love, and that, my friends, is where happiness lives.
Sending love your way!
